Why This Initiative
The mission of Chittagong Development Research Centre (CDRC) is to promote quality research, dialogue, group discussion, and effective use of communication using webinar, online live, focused on current developmental challenges involving Bangladesh, more particularly, Chittagong. It aims to create a platform for interdisciplinary research, knowledge sharing, and policy-oriented initiatives that contribute to society and encourage individuals to come forward with innovative ideas and opinions for sharing.
Chattogram, the second-largest division of Dhaka after the capital, is of immense economic importance as the location of the countryâs prime seaport, Port of Chittagong. It has long been regarded as the commercial capital of Bangladesh. In addition to its geographical and natural diversity, Chattogram possesses well-developed infrastructural facilities, including river- and seaport-based transportation networks, forest resources, tourist attractions, five-star hotels, multi-specialized hospitals, and an organized wholesale trade hubâKhatunganj Marketâwhere essential commodities are traded on a large scale.
Nevertheless, despite its significant resources and strategic location, Chattogram has yet to fully realize its development potential. Unplanned urbanization, infrastructural limitations, traffic congestion, waterlogging, and gaps in effective policy implementation continue to hinder its progress. To meet current and future economic demands, ensure sustainable urban development, and improve the quality of life for local residents, it is essential to adopt a coordinated, forward-looking, and practical development plan.
